NYC NY USA Mar 18 2017: First Roumanian-American Congregation was one of the most significant and historic synagogues on New York City's Lower East Side, at 89–93 Rivington Street in Manhattan. Originally organized in 1885 by Romanian Jewish immigrants. The congregation purchased the building in 1902, which had previously been a Baptist church (dating back to 1860). The building retained its church-like facade, but inside it was richly adorned with murals, gilded ornamentation, and a soaring ceiling. Sometimes called the "Cantor's Carnegie Hall" because of its amazing acoustics and the many famous cantors who performed there, including Yossele Rosenblatt and Moische Oysher.
