This is a bronze, two blade propeller on a stainless steel shaft covered in zebra mussels on a 36 foot sailboat. There is a bronze shaft strut supporting the assembly that has been painted along with the rest of the boat bottom. It is a blue colored antifouling paint designed to impede the growth of algae and marine organisms in fresh water. Zebra mussels have attached themselves to the shaft and propeller which were not painted. Also, there is a sacrificial magnesium anode on the shaft which the zebra mussels cannot attach themselves. The sailboat is on dry land resting on a red cradle where it will remain until spring.
