A Cotes de Provence, Appellation Controlee vineyard in Var in Provence, near St Tropez and Grimaud growing Cinsaut, (or Cinsault) grape vines. The black, fruity aroma, Cinsault grape is one of the most important in the Provence Region and is permitted in the production of Côtes de Provence, Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée (AOC), Rosé Wine. The controlling authority for Côtes de Provence wine production introduced geographic AOC standards and protocols in 1977. This body strictly regulates regulates the grapes that can be grown and the methods of production. Cinsault is one of those permitted grapes in Côtes de Provence AOC wine production. When blended with Grenache, Cinsault produces utterly delicious Mediterranean rosé wine with pale colours and fruity aromas.The designated Côtes de Provence region accounts for nearly 75% of all the wine production in the whole of Provence, with rosé accounting for around 80% of the production.
